About
We serve residential, small business and construction customers as well as large commercial and industrial customers. We are a privately-owned business and open to the public.
South Side Landfill is proud to provide a range of waste management services to all of Central Indiana, with a focus on the Indianapolis south side, as well as surrounding communities such as Beech Grove, Speedway, Avon, Brownsburg, Greenwood, Southport, Mooresville, Carmel, Noblesville and Zionsville.
We have been in continuous operation since 1971. Our facility has been designed and constructed to meet or exceed all state and federal requirements. In our operations, we must comply with strict requirements put in place to protect the land, water and air of Indiana, so you can rest easy knowing that your waste is being managed in the most environmentally responsible way possible.
South Side Landfill is also an educational resource for school districts, universities and civic groups. We provide facility tours to approximately 6,000 individuals each year, learning that a modern landfill is not the “dump” that most people imagine.
About
Reworld™, formerly known as Covanta, is a leader in sustainable waste solutions and is dedicated to transforming waste into valuable resources through innovative technologies. With a comprehensive portfolio of solutions designed to address the most complex challenges of waste management, Reworld™ is committed to achieving carbon-negative outcomes and supporting partners on their sustainability journey.
Their Indianapolis facility is a waste-to-energy operation that is permitted to burn municipal solid waste (MSW) and other nonhazardous (supplemental or special) waste in industrial boilers (or furnaces). The steam generated from the boilers is purchased by a local company to power the downtown Indianapolis heating loop.
Renewable energy recovery, a process made possible at thermomechanical treatment facilities, is a powerful tool in helping businesses and communities achieve their sustainability goals. Not only does it safely and effectively manage their unrecyclable waste materials—it enables them to generate eco-friendly steam and electricity through waste-to-energy, anaerobic digestion and composting technologies.
